Oswaldo Elera Saucedo is a coffee producer from Caserío Las Delicias, located in the district of Jaén within the Cajamarca region of Peru. Born on 10th June 1979, he developed a passion for coffee farming at a young age and now cultivates high-quality varieties such as Catuaí Rojo, Bourbon Rojo, Geisha, and Papayo. Since 2012, he has worked alongside his wife, Vilma Torres Estela, and their two children, creating a family fully committed to the production of specialty coffee. Oswaldo aspires to become a leading coffee producer in his region, with ambitions to compete in local and national specialty coffee competitions.
He manages two coffee parcels. The first, named El Chuquil, spans six hectares, of which two are dedicated to coffee cultivation. This parcel features Bourbon Rojo, Catuaí Rojo, Papayo, and Geisha varieties, with tree ages ranging from two to six years. The annual fertilization process incorporates organic inputs such as compost, guano de isla, and Yaramila.
Oswaldo implements meticulous post-harvest practices to maintain quality. Coffee cherries are selectively harvested, rested in sacks for 12 hours, de-pulped, and fermented for 18 hours in tanks. Drying is carried out on raised beds or within Polythene tents to ensure consistent conditions. He places a strong emphasis on sustainability, using organic fertilizers and eco-friendly methods throughout his farming process. This dedication to quality and sustainability aligns with the increasing global demand for ethically sourced specialty coffee.
